PenCLAHRC's Deputy Director joins MRC Panel

One of PenCLAHRC’s Deputy Directors, Professor Christian Gericke, has recently been appointed to the Medical Research Council’s Strategic Skills Fellowship Panel, a high indicator of peer esteem in the health research community. Professor Gericke will join the subpanel on Population Health and Economics of Health.

Professor Gericke joined the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry (PCMD) in 2010 and is based in Plymouth. He is also an NHS Honorary Consultant Neurologist and Public Health Physician. Prior to that, from 2006 to 2010 he was Professor of Public Health Policy and Director of the Centre for Health Services Research at the University of Adelaide, one of the leading research-intensive universities in Australia. Here, he initiated and directed a new Masters programme in Health Economics and Policy at the University of Adelaide and is still Associate Editor of the journal BMC Health Services Research.

As Deputy Director of PenCLAHRC, Professor Gericke also acts as Executive Lead on a number of health services research projects, including Acute Avoidable Admissions (NIHR Health Services and Delivery Research funded), Pelvic Floor Muscle Training Implementation, Patient Initiated Clinics in Rheumatology, Telecon-Gynae, Telecon-Thyroid, NICE Implementation and VTE.

Professor Gericke is PCMD’s third professor to join an MRC Board/Panel with Professor Steve Thornton (Population and Systems Medicine Board) and Professor John Zajicek (Neurosciences and Mental Health Board).
