The Patient Public Involvement team receive a visit from Norway

PenCLAHRCs Patient Public Involvement (PPI) team got a visit from Norway, who were interested in learning how the team collaborate with patients, carers and members of the public in research. 

The visitors, who are leaders at the regional health authority of Northern Norway and health researchers at Tromso University and Tromso hospital, engaged with members of the Public Involvement Group (PenPIG) and the PPI team over the course of two days. 

Dr Kristin Liabo said: "As always we learn something when we share our work with others, and our visitors said they were now inspired to initiate more patient and public involvement in their area."

PenCHORD teach at international summer school focused on economic modelling in healthcare

This August saw the first International Summer School Riga (ISSR), which was hosted and organised by Rīga Stradiņš University, Latvia. The week-long school drew in students of business, economics, healthcare and social sciences, plus researchers and academics from across Europe. The event focused on the question ‘How can we solve challenges in healthcare systems by applying economic modelling?’, and was explored through presentations, interactive workshops and skills exchange sessions.

Following a hugely successful first round of the Health Service Modelling Associate (HSMA) Programme, a second round of the scheme – HSMA 2018 - has been launched, a joint initiative between PenCLAHRC and the South West Academic Health Science Network (SW ASHN).

The HSMA Programme is a scheme run by PenCLAHRC's operational research team, PenCHORD. Researchers and NHS staff celebrate working together to tackle pressing health service issues

Staff from NHS Trusts across the South West came together with PenCLAHRC researchers to celebrate the success of an innovative programme aimed at tackling problems faced by the health service.

The Health Service Modelling Associates (HSMA) programme, run by our operational research team PenCHORD, is designed to embed the skills and knowledge needed to develop and use computer models to support decision making within the NHS.

The pilot programme culminated in a showcase event, held at the University of Exeter Medical School yesterday. Participants presented their project findings and shared how both they and their organisations have benefited from the scheme.

PenCLAHRC Research Fellow meets HRH Prince Charles at event celebrating care for older people

Dr Vicki Goodwin, Senior Research Fellow and physiotherapy specialist at PenCLAHRC, met with His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales at the British Geriatrics Society’s 70th anniversary celebration on 6 March.

Vicki represented her specialism in physiotherapy with older people at the event, which was held at St Thomas’ Hospital in London and was attended by over 150 people. His Royal Highness met with patients and members of the Society to celebrate the vital work of doctors, nurses and healthcare workers in caring for older people with complex healthcare needs.

PenCLAHRC presents at SW AHSN 'Sharing Best Practice' Conference 2016

Colleagues from PenCLAHRC presented projects being undertaken in partnership with the South West Academic Health Science Network (SW AHSN), at their recent ‘Sharing Best Practice’ Conference 2016.

The SW AHSN Sharing Best Practice Conference, designed for health and care professionals, attracted around 200 people from all over the UK. The event was designed to give idea-focused presentations on a wide range of subjects to foster learning, inspiration and provoke conversations, along with more in-depth sessions.
