Launch of PenCHORD Health Service Modelling Associates Programme

In April 2016, PenCLAHRC’s operational research team, PenCHORD, successfully welcomed the first cohort onto their new Health Service Modelling Associates (HSMA) Programme. The scheme, which runs for 12 months, aims to increase the impact of operational research within the NHS across the South West and will see the selected associates undertake advanced modelling within their own NHS organisations.

The modelling associates are:

  • Alaric Moore, Performance Improvement Manager at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust (RD&E).
  • Hannah Trebilcock, Clinical Audit Officer at South West Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.
  • Joe Turner, Information Analyst at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust.

PenCLAHRC’s operational research team, PenCHORD, are pleased to launch their new Health Service Modelling Associates Programme (HSMA) - a scheme which aims to increase the impact and awareness of operational research within the NHS across the South West. The pilot programme, which will commence in April 2016, will see the associates undertake advanced modelling, simulation and analysis work for, and within, their own organisations.

Successful applicants will be supported throughout the programme through ongoing mentoring and training from PenCHORD.  They will also be supported in their own organisation by a nominated individual (the HSMA Workplace Supervisor) who will facilitate the implementation...

Systematic reviewing support at PenCLAHRC

Our Evidence Synthesis Team (EST) support work across all of PenCLAHRC’s objectives. This includes providing methodological advice and support to the PenCLAHRC community through their fortnightly Search and Review clinics. Established in May 2012, these clinics provide an opportunity for academics, health care professionals and patients to meet with a systematic reviewer or an information specialist.

Since their introduction, the team have helped over 300 individuals from across the South West peninsula. Advice is available within this half hour slot without the need for an evidence synthesis expert to be formally involved in a piece of work. This means that the...
