Researchers at the University of Exeter Medical School have received £500,000 from the Education Endowment Fund to further enhance a study that supports teachers to improve behaviour in their classroom by developing their classroom management technique.
The study will seek to recruit 5,880 pupils in 140 primary schools nationwide. It builds on a previous study of more than 2,000 pupils in 80 schools in Devon, which found that the programme improved child behaviour, concentration and mental health. PenCLAHRC Senior Research Fellow Dr Vashti Berry, based at the University of Exeter Medical School, has received funding from the Economic and Social Research Council’s (ESRC) Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) Project Co-Creation Fund. The new study, called Family Vision, aims to support children exposed to domestic violence through a parent leadership coaching programme.

REhabilitation TRAINing (ReTrain) is a stroke rehabilitation project looking to improve the quality of life of long-term stroke survivors. It is an exercise rehabilitation programme that has been developed based on expert guidelines and an approach called ARNI (Action for Rehabilitation from Neurological Injury), involving techniques and strategies to help patients readjust to the consequences of their stroke and regain participation in the community. The idea for the research originally came from a stroke survivor and stroke survivors have been heavily involved in the development of the project.
