This page provides more detail about the portfolio of PenCLAHRC projects. There are a variety of routes through which research questions become projects, but our adoption processes have the same three key aims:   

  • Conduct patient-focused research reflecting the needs of the public and the NHS
  • Support evidence-based service change for the benefit of patients and the public
  • Build capacity within the local health economy to generate and effectively use the results of research

This case study seeks to understand how primary care, acute, community and voluntary services within an Integrated Care Organisation (Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust) are working together in community hubs, and the impact of care model innovations. Development of an Integrated Psychological Medicine Service

Theme: Mental Health & Dementia

Common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression are common among people passing through the general hospital and are associated with increase emotional distress, worse quality of life, worse medical outcomes and greater healthcare costs. The aim of this project is to greatly improve the level of psychological care provided alongside traditional medical and surgical care for patients attending the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. PenCHORD - Maximising access to thrombectomy services for stroke in England

Theme: PenCHORD
Status: Complete

PenCHORD have performed geographic modelling to help inform roll-out of endovascular thrombectomy, a ground-breaking new treatment for severe stroke. Read more

This project aims to address how schools can best engage parents in their children’s learning. The study will use a review of the evidence, a survey of existing practice in schools in England, and interviews with teachers and international experts. Read more

What are the effects of 'robopets' on the health and wellbeing of residents in care homes? A systematic review of qualitative and quantitative evidence

A systematic review that aims to create a state-of-knowledge synthesis on the impact of robopet-human interaction on care home residents and care home staff, which will be used where possible to inform good practice recommendations for the residential/nursing care sector. Read more
