This page provides more detail about the portfolio of PenCLAHRC projects. There are a variety of routes through which research questions become projects, but our adoption processes have the same three key aims:   

  • Conduct patient-focused research reflecting the needs of the public and the NHS
  • Support evidence-based service change for the benefit of patients and the public
  • Build capacity within the local health economy to generate and effectively use the results of research

Researchers from Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry (PUPSMD) will lead a national study to test the effectiveness of new support to help smokers who want to reduce but not quit. Read more

This project sought to understand the factors that contribute most to growing levels of demand for ambulance services in South West England using a simulation modelling approach. Read more

PenCHORD - HepB: Optimising the management of chronic hepatitis B in children and young people

Theme: PenCHORD
Status: Live

PenCHORD will conduct the cost-effectiveness component of an NIHR RfPB funded project, led by Queen Marys University London, which looks at the use of new diagnostic procedures for Hepatitis B in children and young adults. Read more

PenCHORD - Pathway mapping of STEP 2-4 psychological therapies in the NEW Devon area

Working with a wide range of NHS mental health organisations based in the NEW Devon area (both providers and commissioners), this project aims to develop a pathway map of services to assist the policy making process. Read more

PenCHORD - Streamlining the bladder cancer pathway at RCHT

Theme: PenCHORD
Status: Complete

We will build a simulation model of the muscle-invasive bladder cancer pathway at Royal Cornwall Hospital in order to identify bottlenecks, and test potential changes to the pathway to reduce the time from a patient’s referral to definitive treatment. Read more
