Staff Profile

Dr Nick Cartmell

Primary Care Dementia Research Advisor

Kath Maguire

As a part-time GP I have been involved with regional and national NHS dementia commissioning and service improvement for 6 years. This has enabled me to develop a thorough knowledge of dementia, MCI, dementia risk reduction, advance care planning and Primary Care involvement. It has also become very apparent that much more research into dementia and age-related cognitive impairment is vital to tackle this devastating brain failure syndrome.

Consequently I now have a regular role recruiting people with dementia or worried about dementia to commercial new drug trials, continue to work as a GP, and provide advice to PenCLAHRC to support research applications & PhD studentships relating to dementia.

I am currently supporting Harriet Hunt's PhD studentship: Optimizing cognitive assessment in primary care to support a more effective route to dementia diagnosis.
