Staff Profile

Professor Rose McCabe

Professor of Clinical Communication

Kath Maguire

My research interests encompass basic and applied aspects of mental health care, with a focus on professional-patient communication. I am particularly interested in conditions in which communication may be affected by a disorder, including psychosis, depression and dementia.

My research analyses real clinical consultations to identify social deficits and challenges in communication and translate these findings into novel interventions to improve communication, therapeutic relationships and patient outcomes in mental healthcare. I use multiple methods to analyse communication, including conversation analysis, 3D motion capture and computational linguistic techniques.
