Phil joined PenPEG in January 2021. Originally from South West London, he moved to East Devon a few years ago, and is hoping to get more involved as a patient and interested member of the public in the region. He has long enjoyed writing poetry and prose, something that is always there in the background. As a former long-term mental health service user, most of his work and volunteering has been in health and social care areas, particularly mental health-related peer-led projects such as self advocacy skills training and involvement standards’ evaluation with national and regional charities e.g., Mind, Together-UK, NSUN, CoolTan Arts.
He is a former Chair and Trustee, and current volunteer with national mental health and literary development charity Survivors’ Poetry. He was a Lay Member on the NICE Guideline ‘Decision making and mental capacity’, and for its subsequent Quality Standards (8/2020) and have been a Non-Executive Director (NED) of a GP-led regional out-of-hours and unscheduled care service.
